Welcome to the website of The Marine Environmental Design (MED) laboratory at Yokohama National University (YNU).Our research group focuses on design of marine systems for exploiting mineral deposit on deep sea floor, producing water, and obtaining fossil fuels from the ocean. And we also study the dynamics of marine ecosystem for predicting influence of human activity on marine environment.
Our research can be characterized by a phrase “multidisciplinary ocean engineering,” because we wish to create new fields in macro engineering related to ocean and atmospheric spaces. Our group belongs to the Department of Systems Design for Ocean-Space at YNU, thus has academic background on naval architecture and ocean engineering or aerospace engineering. But most of researches we are addressing are multidisciplinary, requiring us to use very wide areas of knowledge, particularly thermodynamics, oceanography, or ecology.
